The annual Christmas musical will be held on December 18 at the Scottsburg United Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m. Although the program will be at SUMC, all interested Christian singers are welcomed and encouraged to participate. Rehearsals for the musical will take place on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the church, beginning on Wednesday, October 5. There will be NO rehearsal on November 23. There will be a final rehearsal on Saturday, December 18, at 4:00-6:00 p.m. Directing the program will be former Scottsburg High School band and choir director Bill Henderson. Mr. Henderson has served as SUMC choir director for many years and also serves as an adjudicator for bands, orchestras, and solo-ensemble contests sponsored by the Indiana State School Music Association. All singers are welcome regardless of their Christian church affiliation. At the first rehearsal (October 5) participants will receive music and a Compact Disc to use for listening and practice. There is no cost to any participant. This year’s music is titled GO SING IT ON THE MOUNTAIN by Pepper Choplin. The music has it’s basis in familiar folk songs and is treated with Irish, Bluegrass, Baroque and Deep Gospel styling. It is a combination of mountain melodies, folk hymns, spirituals, familiar carols and original music. The program is designed to tell the story of Christmas and to bring honor to Jesus Christ. Any questions about the program, rehearsals, or anything pertaining to participation, call Mr. Henderson at 812-889-2574. — Scottsburg United Methodist Church
