Then He said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for Me will save it.”
Being his disciple means putting aside selfish desires, shouldering one’s “cross” every day, and following Him. It is simple and yet so demanding. For the original Twelve, this meant literal suffering and death. For believers today, it means understanding that we belong to Him and that we live to serve His purposes.
